Character Design- Comparison Sheet

Character Design: Villain Progress

After getting some feedback from Justin on my Villain's Silhouettes, I was told that I needed to sort out the legs to support the weight of the creature when it's standing, however I found it difficult to find something appropriate.

This is the silhouette I chose and that I have to develop: ( any suggestions? )

I went on to develop the face of the villain, I drew a few designs of the eyes and mouth shapes keeping the villainy look, means using pointy shapes:

Here I have mixed the eyes designs with the mouth designs:

It wasn't satisfied with the look of the previous designs, so I tried mixing my designs to come up with even more interesting shapes. I quiet like number 1.

Character Design: Sidekick

This is my first post about my sidekick as I have been thinking about having one who is cheeky, and looking stupid and funny, he will be some sort of sea creature that his dad befriended before he died, so it's very close to the Hero and knows all the family secrets etc

He is cheeky in a way that he wants to steal the magical thing to have power as he always dreams about being big and fly high.
I have also done a few drawings of him trying to fly :D..

Design wise, I am not quite sure yet if it will suit the style i am going for, as he is too cartoony/simplistic, I will think about giving him more details so he fits with everything else.

Character Design- Idea

Right, so after a week of research and thought about my idea, trying to stay away from the generic pirates and mixing it with mystery and fantasy, I have finally came up with a satisfying and exciting idea for my characters.

After a talk with Phil and a very useful tip, I kept asking myself many questions about the world which will then help me decide about my characters.
The idea of having a world within a world is really interesting and adds some sort of tension and surprise..
The world of Fantasy rises up from underneath earth, an attractive/charming world full of magic but deceiving as its creatures are very vicious and poisonous.
I chose my character to be a pirate in land, living in a small village in which everyone is known and defending each other.

So my idea is about a man/pirate who, during an adventure, found some sort of magical diamond and gave it to his son before his death. After a few years, his son took his dad's place and kept stealing on land to survive and help his village.
The gift from his father gave him some supernatural powers he never thought would exist, It allowed him to travel long distances quickly and remain undercover and this helped him in terms of stealing lots of stuff and making his village very rich.
However, something very strange happened one night, a world has risen from the bottom and flying jellyfishes attacked the village realising the magical item is missing which gives them power (a source of magic for them).
The tension rises when the Hero doesn't give up the diamond which gives him power to satisfy his needs and the Jellyfish needs it to keep the magical world running.

Will his greed cause his village to be destroyed? or will he fight the jellyfish until the magical world disappear ? One thing is sure, the diamond can't be shared.

Character Design: Research

Concerning our 10week Character project, we were asked to develop three characters (Hero, Villain and Sidekick) based on 2 subjects and a theme.
My 2 subjects are Fantasy and Pirate and Mystery as a theme.

This combination sounds really exciting to me, however I am trying to find an interesting way of combining them and visualising them. I went to do a quick research about the definitions of each word which then will broaden my vision about it.

Fantasy: Something that contains imagination unrestricted by reality, fiction with a lot of imagination, Supernatural elements or unrealistic events that people believe to be false.
It can be characterized by its style, which is representational and naturalistic rather than abstract.
It is also called visionary art, grotesque art or mannerist art. Moreover it is deeply interactive with fantasy literature.

Mystery: Something that is not fully understood, which contains a work of fiction or dealing with obscure and secret.

Pirate: Someone who robs at sea without commission from a sovereign nation, or makes use of or reproduces the work of someone else without legal right or authorisation.
The term can be applied to acts committed in the air, land or on a shore.

Mystery-fiction: The terms focuses on supernatural or thriller mystery in which the solution does not have to be logical or even no crime is involved.

Film Influence: These films show a good example of my three subjects, however I wanna move away from Pirate in the sea to something less generic.
