Minor project: Influence and Characters
After having collected keywords about the market from family, I have started researching into the characters listed. (water men, storytellers, fire breathers, exotic dancers, snake charmers, beggars, fortune tellers)
Below are some photographs I have taken during my holiday back home, Morocco, and others I have found very interesting in terms of exaggeration and style.
These are some drawings of the characters I find most interesting, however I will be drawing the rest of the list and pick those who would be more 'influencing'.
In order to loosen up, I have experimented with ink and tried to get the gesture of the characters and went on to draw the characters in a slightly exaggerated, expressionistic style using graphite, charcoal, ink and watercolour.
Next I will be focusing on facial features using the african masks research as well as experimenting with colours to find the right textures.

Adaptation Part B: Textures test
These are some tests for my set, I wanted to go for a mix of painterly and realistic look, so I have been experimenting with the photographs I have taken and painting over them using the neutral colours.
I quite like how it turned out, however I ll be working on it more to keep it less patchy, more subtle!

Adapatation Part B: Frottage textures experiment
Frottage is a technique developed by Max Ernst, by rubbing (using pencil, charcoal ..) on a paper placed on top of surface.
I thought of using the technique "Frottage" as it might be useful for my texturing phase or even bump maps/ dirt maps.

Adaptation Part B: Expressionism Approach
I decided to go for an expressionist style/ distorted look to my set, in order to create a claustrophobic and disorienting feel.
I started out with using straight lines to draw the composition and using specific parts to create windows and other assets (planks, pipes, doors etc..) which could be seen in the next post.

Character Design: Hero-Silhouette experiment
For my Hero (The Pirate), I have decided to take some pictures of myself and make them silhouettes as it is a more effective way to come up with interesting designs I believe, I have developed some of them and added some clothing and props to get an idea of the overall shape.
Developed silhouettes:

Unit4: Fantastic Voyage- Vintage Abstract Photography
Original pictures on the left and manipulated ones on the right.
This experiment shows vintage abstract photographs which I will be using as textures in my 3d Animation.
